Christmas Morphsuits – If you are fit, foolhardy, fun-loving, or just plain foolish, you may want to consider a more dramatic change to your Christmas fancy dress this year and opt for a Morphsuit.

The Morphsuit is becoming increasingly popular, at sporting occasions, festivals, parties and stag and hen nights, and there are a number of Christmas Morphsuits that are suitable for the coming festive season.

In a Christmas Morphsuit, if you’ve got “it’ you can flaunt “it”, but you don’t need to be super fit to wear one. Of course, if your main objective is to attract and impress the opposite sex then being well toned may be a prerequisite, but if you are just out to have fun then forget the spare tyre and go for it. In the west we tend to think of angels as being tall and beautiful human like creatures with wings and halos, who radiate goodness and great power and are able to travel between the spirit world and Earth.

The word angel is derived from the Greek word “angelos” which means “messenger” and often in religious texts, and in art, angels are depicted as bringing messages from the celestial world to humankind.

However, as well as good angels there are also bad, or fallen, angels, who spread lies and attempt to lead people astray.

Like angels, we tend to think of fairies as beautiful and radiant, and human in appearance. Fairies are also depicted as magical winged creatures, who can fly between the spirit world and Earth, and are normally seen as small and delicate in stature, but not always (Cinderella’s fairy godmother).

Just like angels, fairies are not all good. Some can be naughty and mischievious (Tinkerbell) whilst others are quite malicious (some even abduct human babies). There is a belief that fairies may even be demoted angels, not good enough to be in heaven but not bad enough to be in hell, if not fallen angels.

We review here some angel fancy dress and some fairy fancy dress. The only thing you have to decide is whether you want to be a good angel or fairy, or whether you want to be a demoted or fallen angle.

In entomology a “nymph” is the immature form of an insect still undergoing metamorphosis. This fairy fancy dress is clearly not intended for such a creature but for one that is a fully developed adult.

In mythology nymphs are depicted as beautiful, nubile and amorous young women, outside the control of men, and who mate at their own violition. This has led to the use of the word “nympho” (nymphomaniac) to describe a women with abnormal or uncontrollable sexual desires.

Now, you could just tell people that you’ve come to the party dressed as a good fairy. However, if you want to tell them you’ve come dressed as a nymph, be sure to leave the “o” off the end. You have been warned!

This adult fairy costume (wings not inluded) comes in two dress sizes: Small/Medium 8 to 10, and Medium/Large 10 to 12.

The wings are optional but might be deemed necessary to convince people you ‘ve come as a good fairy and not just a nymph.

Theologians in the middle ages divided heavenly angels into nine categories over three levels:

In the first level are Seraphim, Cherubim and Ophanim, who appear to mankind only as a beam of pure, brilliant light.

In the second level are Dominions, Virtues and Powers, who do not appear to mankind at all.

In the third level are Principalities, Archangels and Angels, who appear to mankind in human form (albeit with wings and a halo).

You can’t go to the party dressed as a beam of light, but you do want to make an appearance, so why not shine in this very becoming angel fancy dress.

The costume comes in one size, to fit dress sizes 12 to 14, and comprises the dress and the matching halo. The wings are optional but, if you want your appearance to be complete, you may purchase them as an accessory.

As with all fairies, woodland fairies are magical and can be kind and benefolent to humans, mischievious and playful, or dark and malicious.

Some woodland fairies are said to be very protective of their habitat, to the point that those who dare to trespass could end up either incurably ill or simply made to vanish, never to be heard of again.

Sometimes they can be like the nymph, a little too free and easy with their charms, falling in love with the first young man that comes along. And sometimes they are beautiful and chaste and do nothing but good.
